I had several stages of bosses; one shop steward,one supervisor, one head of the department, one president, one business agent of the city division, one bigger boss, one more big big boss. Our shop steward was one of the boss' son. He had a log book where he'd write down daily events for his mother to read. One day a group of us found it and read it, it had stuff written in there like, "Pat was two minutes late, said the subway was late," "everyone took too long ironing pit pads." Everyone was so freaked out, we showed it to the president of our union and he said, "I don't see a book, I don't see it, I don't see it..." then he'd burst into an operatic aria because he finally had an audience in front of him and we were all looking at him in wide-eyed in disbelief.
